The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez (CC), announced yesterday that the City Council is in the final stages of drafting “a comprehensive traffic and parking management scheme for the city,” aimed at achieving a balance between supply and demand to promote sustainable urban mobility.

The councillor shared that this proposal “will incorporate a process of community involvement, enabling residents to voice their opinions and provide suggestions, as the goal is to minimise the negative impacts created by traffic, such as environmental pollution from emissions and noise, and to ensure that “parking becomes more convenient.”

Bermúdez further highlighted that the initiative is part of the Santa Cruz Verde 2030 project, under which “we are preparing the city to lower CO2 emissions through tangible actions such as the bicycle lane or the utilisation of renewable energy. Soon, the construction of the 100% sustainable street will be completed, which will feature a photovoltaic plant in the Maritime Park, contributing clean energy to the municipal grid.”

Additionally, regarding the Government’s decision to halt planning on the Refinery land to construct a new sustainable city, he stated that “urban planning will be handled by Gestur, which will present the proposal to the private developers who own the land.”
