The El Sauzal City Council proudly held the III Migrant Fair on Saturday, November 30. Organised by the Department of Citizen Participation and Volunteering, this event has become a prominent occasion for raising awareness and promoting cultural diversity in northern Tenerife.
This year attracted a significant turnout from both local residents and migrants residing at the Temporary Reception Centre of Las Raíces (CAT), the Comprehensive Reception Centre (CAI) of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and various other migrant facilities on the Island, including Tacoronte and Garachico.
The programme aimed to foster community engagement through leisure activities that showcased different cultures globally. The intent was to create an environment for coexistence, learning, and contemplation on the significance of integration and mutual understanding.
The event featured a variety of workshops, including African dance, Canarian wrestling, percussion, Latin dance, and even painting, along with bouncy castles and a playroom for children. Additionally, a communal meal was organised for all attendees.
To conclude the fair, the El Sauzal Social Consciousness Award was presented to the first-year ESO students of IES Sabino Berthelot in Ravelo, acknowledging their dedication to social justice and the rights of migrants.
Mariano Pérez, the mayor of El Sauzal, expressed that this fair demonstrates the Municipality’s commitment to diversity, respect, and mutual understanding. Pérez reaffirmed his determination to continue working towards integration and intercultural harmony.
