A local community group has arranged a protest in remembrance of the dog that tragically lost its life on October 29, reportedly after being electrocuted when it stepped on an electrical network cover in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

This event is set to take place on November 30 from 10:00 to 12:00, in front of number 69 Vicente Ferrer Street. The promotional poster for the demonstration, shared on Facebook, bears the message: “Help me so that my death does not go unnoticed.”

The initiative has been led by the community group from the El Toscal area, aiming to raise awareness about the incident and to prevent similar accidents in the future.

The dog met its fate last October in circumstances that raised alarm amongst the local residents. The municipal authorities reported that the incident was reported to 092, leading to an alert concerning the dog’s collapse after it passed over a cover belonging to the Endesa company on the pavement. Upon arrival, the authorities confirmed the dog’s death and noted that smoke was emanating from the mentioned sewer.

In response, Endesa stated that they had not received confirmation that electrocution was the cause of death and mentioned that the autopsy would be crucial in clarifying the matter.

The incident has sparked outrage among local residents and workers, many of whom claim to have heard the dog’s cries during the event. One witness recounted that the dog experienced seizures before passing away, describing the experience as harrowing. Additionally, several residents reported that this was not the first occurrence of this box causing harm to other animals.

The protest aims to call for action to ensure safety on public thoroughfares.
