The Reggae Can Festival, the premier reggae festival in the Canary Islands, is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a memorable conclusion: the inaugural Reggae Can Dub Party, a tribute to the Jamaican sound legacy, which will be held in Bajamar on Friday, November 29, featuring free admission and an impressive lineup of renowned reggae artists, both international and local.

The press conference was graced by the attendance of Jesús Domingo Galván, the councillor for Promotion and Local Development, Environment, Health, Mobility and Transport, Adrián del Castillo, the councillor for Culture and the Autonomous Organisation for Musical Activities, and Ruth Barreto, the festival promoter and Canarian activist, who announced the key highlights of this event.

The ‘dub’ and its enveloping soundscape will take centre stage during the party, hosted by Corina Achimencey Avenue in Bajamar, featuring Paolo Baldini Dubfiles Meets Mellow Mood (Italy) and Alpha Steppa (England) as the main acts. The lineup will also showcase performances from Makka Dubba & Dada Wanche, Javadub, and Andrea Álvarez.

The Reggae Can Dub Party promises a day of outdoor entertainment suitable for all age groups and music enthusiasts, running from 12:00 noon until 1:30 in the morning.

Throughout the day, there will be activities for children, food trucks with a focus on vegetarian cuisine, a market, and initiatives promoting sustainability and gender equality, among other attractions.

Jesús Domingo Galván, the Environment councillor, emphasised the significance of the event as a model of sustainability: “The Reggae Can Dub Party fosters a responsible leisure approach, with activities that encourage environmental respect and equality. The City Council will continue to back initiatives that merge culture, sustainability, and community.”

Moreover, the Culture mayor, Adrián del Castillo, remarked that this festival “showcases the cultural richness and diversity we champion from the La Laguna City Council, reinforcing our municipality as a hub for the promotion and support of various artistic expressions and local talent.”

Ruth Barreto, the festival promoter and Canarian activist, expressed that “the tenth anniversary of the Reggae Can Festival is a celebration of our dedication to culture and the community, bringing together individuals of all ages and linking the Canary Islands to the roots of global reggae music.”

The Reggae Can Dub Party serves as the grand finale of the tenth edition of the Reggae Can Festival 2024, taking place in San Sebastián de La Gomera, El Médano, and Plaza del Adelantado in La Laguna. This festival, made possible through the collaboration of the ICDC, the Cabildo of Tenerife, and the La Laguna City Council via the Departments of Culture (OAAM) and the Environment, showcases reggae created in the Canary Islands, offering a distinguished platform for both seasoned and emerging artists, composers, performers, DJs, and bands from the archipelago to present their original works.

An unparalleled experience courtesy of the ‘sound system’

The Reggae Can Dub Party invites participants to immerse themselves in an innovative experience, exploring deep sonic layers and unique renditions that transform original tracks. Attendees will enjoy a professional audio system arranged in a square format, with speakers positioned at four strategic points that encircle the audience, placing them at the heart of the sound experience. The profound and distinctive bass associated with reggae will be guaranteed, generating intense sub-bass vibrations that define DUB and creating a genuine and immersive ambiance.

This event not only captures the spirit of dub and the sound system but also positions the Reggae Can Festival and the Canary Islands at the forefront of reggae culture, aligning this event with a global trend that continues to grow and draw followers worldwide. This groundbreaking initiative strengthens the festival’s status as an international landmark, connecting the local audience with a cultural expression that surpasses borders.
