The La Catedral Sweets announced its closure last August, concluding a remarkable 110 years of legacy. This long-standing establishment in the heart of La Laguna, situated at the intersection of San Juan and Carrera streets, adjacent to the Cathedral, has been a longstanding institution in traditional Canarian confections.

Now, La Laguna Sweets has taken over this iconic venue, preserving its essence and even retaining some of its staff, including Carmen, who dedicated 16 years to the La Catedral Sweets.

This morning, the mayor of La Laguna City Council, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, visited the reopened establishment, now under the stewardship of Daniel and Tomás Fariña.

Dulcería La Catedral was established in 1914 by Doña Rafaela, a woman from Cádiz who relocated to La Laguna with her military spouse. Initially, the sweetshop was a modest venue focused on the artisanal creation of confections. Gradually, its first employee, José Hernández Arvelo, the grandfather of the current proprietor, María Jesús Rodríguez, took control of the business, which has remained within the family over three generations.

Throughout its journey, Dulcería La Catedral has adhered to traditional recipes, providing an extensive selection of typical Canarian delicacies, including as many as 117 varieties of sweets from across the Island and the Archipelago.
