The Cabildo of Tenerife is set to allocate 3.8 million euros for the establishment of a desalination facility in the central region of Costa de Rojas, situated within the municipality of El Sauzal, which will deliver 1,800 cubic metres of water daily.
The construction will be executed by the joint venture Teideagua SA over the course of one year and forms part of the initiatives stemming from the water emergency declared by the island’s authorities, as stated in a press release from the Cabildo.
This initiative will facilitate the provision of new water resources for the areas of El Sauzal and the La Laguna-Tacoronte system.
The modular desalination plant at Costa de Rojas will be positioned beneath the ‘Primavera’ and ‘Los Naranjos’ developments and will link to the Canal del Norte transport infrastructure as it traverses the San Simón Depot.
The installation will also include works for seawater intake, along with the necessary civil construction and the setup of reverse osmosis desalination modules.
Additionally, it will incorporate the implementation of EBAB, which is responsible for pumping the processed water as well as the supply pipeline to the Canal del Norte from the San Simón storage reservoir.
