The Councillor for Security and Emergencies of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Gladis de León, enacted a decree this morning that confirms the expulsion of Santiago Carlos Martin as a volunteer in the municipal Civil Protection group and simultaneously resigns from his role as leader of this volunteer organisation.

While maintaining the presumption of innocence, the City Council’s decision relies on the decree for his imprisonment, as well as various breaches identified in both local and regional regulations that govern the operation of these Civil defence groups.

Moreover, this municipal action has also taken into account the harm inflicted upon the reputation of the capital’s volunteer group, whose members are undeserving of this situation, and to whom the councillor has already extended her full support to continue with the vital work they undertake daily.

In addition, considering the serious allegations against him, which are widely known, the council believes it is imperative to detach the former leader from the ongoing and essential activities that volunteers provide for the community of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Consequently, the decree appoints the current deputy head of the group, José Ramón de León González, a volunteer with over 15 years of experience, to temporarily take over its leadership.

Lastly, the Santa Cruz City Council insists that the procedural and personal circumstances surrounding the former leader of the Civil Protection volunteer group should not tarnish the significant activities and strong reputation of this group, which has been proven time and again throughout its history of service to Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
