Tenerife carries out the first big promotion of the direct flight to New York of United Airlines, starting in June 2022, at the annual congress of tour operators of the United States that is held in San Diego (California). “Destiny may be a new Hawaii for Americans.” This was stated a few days ago to the specialized portal Tourinews an authorized voice, that of Alberto Bernabé, former Minister of Tourism of the Cabildo. He emphasizes that the first three months of testing the connection “will be the key to the success and continuity of the route.” This is the objective of the representation of the Island, through the Minister of Tourism of Tenerife (TDT), David Pérez, in this forum.
The Tenerife Council, through DTT, attends the annual congress of the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA), which is held until tomorrow. The event will allow the Island to come into contact with the North American tourism industry and thus open up to this important travel market, where the possibilities have been significantly expanded after the planned air connection starting in summer 2022, with three direct weekly frequencies between New York and Tenerife South.
The insular director of Tourism, Laura Castro, points out the relevance of being present at an event of this type, «with a potential market, Only in the US, of about 330 million people, to which the Canadian also joins, with about 40 million more ».
“The objective is to enter this market as of next summer”
Castro emphasizes: «It will be possible to interact with the main executives of the North American tourism industry directly, as well as create associations that can help to consolidate Tenerife as a holiday destination». To this must be added the participation in various symposia.
The counselor David Pérez highlights the objectives with which the island attends the meeting: «From presenting Tenerife as a destination to positioning itself in the top of mind of the traveler with a view to the summer season to, ultimately, to increasing the number of visitors from both the United States and Canada. ‘
On the agenda, it is worth highlighting the presentation of the main attractions of the Island as a destination in an event organized by the Turespaña office in New York. In addition to meetings with tour operators such as Globus, Signature Travel Network, United Vacations, Collete, The Travel Corporation USA or Avanti Destinations.
The Tenerife delegation will in turn meet with United Airlines representatives in order to design a joint promotional action aimed at the airline’s customers on the direct flight.
As the president of the Cabildo explained in his day, Pedro Martin, the connection will be made by means of a Boeing 757-300 aircraft, with 13,400 initial seats, through three weekly frequencies that will link Newark airport with Tenerife South.
Martín values not only the tourist route but the possibility of setting up business venues, congresses or filming, as well as companies attracted by tax benefits.
