The City Council of Tacoronte has started the process to modify the ordinance granting subsidies to control and eradicate the termite plague of the Reticulitermes flavipes species. The changes will allow residents to access these aid even when they have debts with public administrations and that priority is also given to actions in the interiors of homes against these insects.

The objective is that the subsidies cover “all those aspects that were not contemplated in the previous ones”, according to the Councilor for the Environment, Carmela Díaz Vilela. “The changes will allow us to approve an ordinance under the criterion of the general interest and a marked social character,” said Vilela.

The mayor of Sí Se Can recalls that the previous ordinance “had a series of conditions” for its access that it was impossible for us to modify, which meant that “aid was denied to people who did not have the means to treat their homes, something that was in to the detriment of the entire municipality. Carmela Díaz Vilela criticized that said measure prevented some people with few resources from carrying out the treatment because they had debts with the administration that they could not face, “with the damage that this causes to the rest of the houses and public properties or private of Tacoronte ».

The modifications to the ordinance also seek to reduce bureaucracy so that at any time the presence of termites is detected, and with the relevant technical report, assistance can be requested directly, which will be received immediately and without waiting periods. This modification will be retroactive for those people who could not benefit from the previous subsidy.
