The president of Tenerife Council, Rosa Davila issued a warning this Monday regarding the “serious threat” associated with ascending to the summit of Teide currently due to adverse weather conditions and the cable car being out of service.

In an announcement made by the council, she urged for “responsibility and common sense to prevent hazardous and unnecessary situations” which endanger not only the climbers but also the rescue teams.

Dávila emphasised that making the ascent to the summit is ill-advised at this time and expressed her disappointment that rescue teams have repeatedly had to be deployed since last Saturday due to such “recklessness,” with a total of 130 individuals having climbed inappropriately.
