The authorities have provided a series of recommendations for residents of El Ortigal in light of the presence of smoke due to a fire declared at a farm in La Laguna, near the Hernández Canino Trail.

It is advised to shut doors and windows and to wear masks when venturing outside, particularly for individuals with respiratory conditions, the elderly, and children.

The blaze, which ignited early Thursday afternoon, has prompted the mobilisation of personnel from the La Laguna and Santa Cruz Fire Stations, alongside volunteers from La Laguna and Tegueste, coordinated by the 112 Emergency Centre.

The Local Police in La Laguna also intervened, opting to evacuate the staff of CEIP El Ortigal, situated near the affected region. This precaution, according to Badel Albelo, the Councillor for Citizen Security, is a measure taken for safety reasons without any direct threat.

In their efforts to extinguish and manage the fire, firefighters have focused on the perimeter of the affected farm, clearing away bales of grass and performing cooling operations with heavy machinery. The fire has impacted materials and approximately 70 tons of stored alfalfa at the site.

Three patrol cars from the La Laguna local police, one from Tacoronte, and five fire engines from Tenerife have been dispatched to the fire site. Four shovels, two Teidagua tanks, and three Urbaser tanks have also been deployed to help prevent the blaze from advancing to nearby locations.

At the incident site, the Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, along with Councillors Badel Albelo for Citizen Security, Fran González for Municipal Services, and Sergio Eiroa for Education, have been monitoring the operations alongside Vicente Cámara, the zone officer of the Tenerife Fire Consortium.

Extinguishing efforts are ongoing at the farm to ensure the flames are under control and to secure the safety of the surrounding area.
