The Island Government Council yesterday approved a investment of 3.3 million euros to carry out a total of 43 works in 17 municipalities, within the framework of the so-called Priority Works Program.
This was announced by the president of the Tenerife Council, the socialist Pedro Martin, who explained that these are actions of “public interest that will also generate employment and the local economy.”
Martín indicated that priority projects will be carried out to meet the needs of those municipalities with less technical and economic capacity (those with less than 20,000 inhabitants), “in order to guarantee the comprehensive provision of municipal public services throughout the island territory.”
“We are concerned about the difficulties faced by the municipalities with a smaller population when it comes to undertaking actions in their territory. This island program wants to solve problems, generate employment and make the presence of the Cabildo reach more and better all the municipalities of Tenerife, “he said.
200,000 euros
The president of the Insular Corporation details that the 17 municipalities that participate in the Priority Works Program are Buenavista del Norte, Arafo, Arico, Garachico, Fasnia, La Guancha, La Matanza, El Rosario, San Juan de la Rambla, Santa Úrsula, Santiago del Teide, Los Silos, El Tanque, El Sauzal, Tegueste, La Victoria and Vilaflor. “And each of them will be able to receive a maximum of 200,000 euros per project”, highlights the socialist Pedro Martín.
East Priority Works Program complements the so-called Municipal Cooperation Plan 2018-2021, “Which already has 15 projects in execution spread over 13 municipalities on the island,” said, for his part, the island councilor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing, the socialist Zebenzuí Chinea.
Regarding the list of priority works, the projects presented by the different councils “range from the rehabilitation of municipal infrastructures to the improvement of supply networks and lighting systems, although the actions to adapt the cemeteries to current regulations stand out.” .
Quality of life
The socialist Zebenzuí Chinea insists that «These are actions of great importance for the island’s municipalities, with whom we are in permanent contact, which will improve the quality of life of their neighbors.
The insular councilor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing explains that, in addition, the municipalities were asked “to deal with works that were already programmed and that they had projects already drawn up, so as not to have to wait for the approval or drafting of projects, and continue working and investing money in the streets, especially after the coronavirus pandemic Covid 19».
