The La Laguna City Council convened a coordination meeting this Tuesday regarding the security and emergency arrangements for the White Night 2024, which is scheduled for Saturday, November 23.

The meeting was presided over by the first deputy mayor and councillor for Citizen Security, Badel Albelo, alongside the councillor for Commerce and Tourism, Estefanía Díaz, as well as managers and personnel from various departments involved in the event’s organisation, along with commanders from the National Police Corps, Civil Guard, Canarian Autonomous Police and Civil Protection, in addition to the team preparing the security and self-protection strategy.

Badel Albelo emphasised the “cross-cutting nature of this operation, where we are supported by a highly professional team due to the engagement of the security forces and the backing of all organisational staff. We have worked collaboratively with the Security department and the planning team to ensure that the White Night proceeds smoothly and has the capability to promptly respond to any situations that may arise.” The event will also feature a substantial healthcare facility, a field hospital, and two advanced and basic life support stations.

Moreover, the councillor underscored the collaboration from the Cabildo of Tenerife in both regulating traffic on the island’s roads during the event and in enhancing the public transport services via Titsa and Metropolitano de Tenerife. Additionally, the taxi sector will be augmenting its services throughout the day and night to cater to the needs of visitors.

Badel Albelo stated that up until Saturday, “we will continue holding regular coordination meetings to refine every detail of an event that will attract thousands to the city, allowing them to enjoy a secure White Night.”

In her remarks, the councillor for Commerce, Estefanía Díaz, highlighted “the collaborative effort among various municipal departments and the security forces involved in this security plan for the White Night. This year, the event holds particular significance as it commemorates the 25th anniversary of La Laguna’s designation as a World Heritage City, which, coupled with the expected large turnout, further underscores the commitment and effort we are dedicating to ensure the day unfolds without incident and transforms into a safe celebration. “This is a model of cooperation, with all staff dedicated to providing an experience that showcases the best of La Laguna,” she asserted.

Based on previous editions, it is projected that over 100,000 individuals will visit La Laguna during the White Night, a day that will commence at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and extend into the early hours of Sunday, featuring an extensive programme that merges culture, art, heritage, commerce, and entertainment, in a special tribute to the city and its residents as part of the 25th anniversary of its recognition as a World Heritage City. The event will present around a hundred activities across 30 locations within the city, showcasing international performances, family activities, sporting events, and a grand culinary and commercial offering.
