The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, will preside over the inauguration of the extraordinary and decorative Christmas lights in the city on Thursday, November 21. This event is scheduled to take place at the Plaza de la Candelaria starting at 7:30 p.m. This year, the decorative display for the opening ceremony has been enhanced by increasing the number of lights and introducing new decorations at various locations around the square and nearby areas, thus elevating the visual experience and crafting a distinctive atmosphere for family celebrations,” stated the mayor.

“The city is set to witness a monumental occasion with the inaugural Christmas Lighting in the iconic Plaza de la Candelaria, which we are returning to this year and promises to enchant both residents and visitors,” Bermúdez remarked. He further noted that “this will signal the official commencement of the Christmas season, transforming the square and the primary streets of the five districts into an extraordinary display of light and colour.”

The occasion will include addresses from the mayor and the councillor for Festivals, who will be joined by the first deputy mayor and councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, as well as other municipal Corporation members, to commence this celebration in a setting filled with magic and emotion. Following their speeches, an exceptional performance will surprise attendees, culminating in the much-anticipated illumination of the square and the activation of Christmas lights across the city.

Councillor for Festivals, Javier Caraballero, emphasised the relocation of the event, “which had previously been held in the Plaza del Príncipe but had become too small in recent years due to the overwhelming number of people wanting to attend an occasion that signifies the start of the Christmas campaign across the city’s five districts.”

Meanwhile, Councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, noted that “last summer we initiated the installation of the Christmas lighting, which will feature significant improvements compared to previous years, particularly evident on Tres de Mayo Avenue and at the entrance to the capital via the TF-4, around the Auditorium and the Fairgrounds.”

Finally, the city council wishes to emphasise its objective of achieving sustainable lighting that encompasses all five districts.
