The Santa Cruz City Council, via the Municipal Institute of Social Care and Public Services, in conjunction with the Local Police, took action yesterday by dismantling one of the three remaining booths located near the Pancho Camurria land. This effort continues their commitment to eliminate substandard housing situated on municipal land, “always after providing the occupants with a housing solution within the public resources available to this council,” as stated by the Social Action councillor, Charín González.

The councillor indicated that, “soon, after reaching a provisional agreement with another resident, another booth will be taken down.” Regarding the third booth, she explained that “given the resident’s refusal to vacate or accept the proposed accommodation solution, we will need to seek the intervention of the judicial authority” to address the matter.

Out of the 30 makeshift homes in this settlement, only two remain. The aim is for the site, occupied by these booths for 16 years, to be transformed into a space for public use.
