The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, will be in charge of illuminating the extraordinary and decorative Christmas lights in the city on Thursday, November 21, during an event taking place in the Plaza de la Candelaria commencing at 7:30 p.m. This year’s decorative display at the inauguration has been enriched by “increasing the number of lights and introducing new decorations in various areas of the square and its surroundings, enhancing the visual experience and creating a unique atmosphere for family celebrations,” said the mayor.

“The city is set to witness a historic occasion with the first celebration of the Christmas Lighting in the iconic Plaza de la Candelaria, which we returned to this year, promising to mesmerise both residents and visitors,” noted Bermúdez. He added that “this will signify the official start of the Christmas season, transforming the square and the main thoroughfares of the five districts into a remarkable display of light and colour.”

The event will feature remarks from the mayor and the Festivals councillor, alongside other members of the municipal Corporation, to commence this celebration amidst an atmosphere filled with magic and emotion. Following the speeches, a special performance will surprise attendees, culminating in the much-anticipated illumination of the square and the activation of Christmas lights across the city.

The Councillor for Festivals, Javier Caraballero, emphasised the relocation of an event “that previously took place in the Plaza del Príncipe, but in recent years had grown too small due to the overwhelming number of people who wished to be part of the occasion that signifies the start of the Christmas campaign across the city’s five districts.”

In addition, the Councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, reminded everyone that “last summer, we commenced the installation of the Christmas lighting, which will feature significant improvements compared to previous years, as can be seen along Tres de Mayo Avenue and at the entrance to the capital, via the TF-4, in the vicinity of the Auditorium and the Fairgrounds.”

Lastly, the city council wishes to highlight its commitment to sustainable lighting that will extend to all five districts.
