The representatives of the Santa Cruz Market have pledged, during a meeting this afternoon at the Town Hall, to adhere strictly to the regulations governing the market, which have been repeatedly violated, as evidenced by police reports as well as the firm responsible for managing the space around the Our Lady of Africa market.

As a result, the suspension of the Rastro will continue this Sunday, November 10, following the signing of a decree. The event will be reinstated in its original location on Sunday, November 24. Should any violations persist, arrangements will be made for relocation to another area of the city before January.

The Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, clearly stated, “The City Council will not permit further violations. Vendors must display their licenses prominently, each trader must be situated in their designated spot on the location map, and all 412 authorised vendors must follow safety protocols and schedules.” The mayor, alongside the council member, initiated a commitment from the traders to evaluate adherence to this agreement on a weekly basis. Following Three Kings Day, the Rastro will be moved to a new location that enhances its operational conditions.

Moreover, the Council Member for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, reaffirmed his endorsement of the Rastro, “provided the rules are adhered to, as evidenced by an investment of €200,000 to procure tents for licensed merchants.”

In addition, the mayor remarked that “finding an alternative location will enable us to conduct the activity in compliance with safety standards, improve access control, and adhere to current regulations.”

The City Council reminds the public that the Rastro will not occur on the 17th due to its clash with the marathon in the capital. It has been agreed that this day will be compensated with the activity taking place next Friday, December 6, if the regulations are followed.
