On November 16, the Military Historical Museum of the Canary Islands will feature the third edition of the Holy Cross Escape City, an immersive role-playing adventure inspired by the militaristic history and cultural heritage of the capital of Tenerife.

This event is organised in honour of International World Heritage Day, providing participants with an interactive experience that allows them to delve into the past through strategic missions and carefully crafted scenarios that recreate pivotal occurrences in the city’s defence.

Titled “II Cabeza de León,” the event commemorates the battle of Santa Cruz in 1706, when an English fleet appeared off the island’s coast with invasion intentions.

On November 5 of that year, British forces under the command of Admiral John Jennings shelled the city in an effort to conquer local troops and gain control. Nevertheless, the resilience of the Tenerife populace, who pledged allegiance to King Felipe V, successfully repelled the assault, marking a significant moment in the defence of Santa Cruz.

Participants in the Santa Cruz Escape City will have the chance to experience this legendary defence through 18 missions and 14 characters specifically created for the occasion.

Prize of 1,500 euros

Equipped with a “war kit” consisting of a t-shirt, a museum map, a war diary, a torch and an ultraviolet light, participants must tackle the assigned tasks and face challenges inspired by the military strategies and innovations of the era.

Those who successfully complete all missions will be entered into a draw for a prize of 1,500 euros.

This role-playing game, organised by the Autonomous Organisation of Culture (OAC) of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, offers a unique opportunity to discover elements of the military heritage of the capital through engaging gameplay, where participants undertake missions to solve puzzles and achieve objectives that direct them to various historical sites.

In this instance, the Canary Islands Military Historical Museum will serve as the primary venue, taking players back to the moments of tension and strategy that defined the island’s defence against foreign incursions.

Further information is available on the website www.lasantacruz.es.
