Tenerife Auditorium Faces Strike: What You Need to Know

The union Movimiento Sindical Canario (MSK) has declared a strike notice on behalf of the employees of the company Insae, responsible for the maintenance services of the Auditorium of Tenerife, due to the non-payment of wages.

This action impacts a total of eight workers out of the 105 employed by the company across the islands, who provide their services at the airports of La Gomera and El Hierro, as well as the public lighting in Breña Alta (La Palma), Pájara (Fuerteventura), Tías (Lanzarote), and the Príncipe Felipe building in Tenerife.

The employees have expressed in a statement that they have received no response to their ongoing requests to the company. They are currently facing two months of unpaid wages and nearly a year of continuous delays, which has led to a state of “insecurity regarding what will happen to their future,” causing them significant personal stress.

Regarding the situation at the Tenerife Auditorium, they note that they have attempted “in every possible way” to engage management, including having the personnel representative and the union seek solutions, but “they seem uninterested in the workers’ concerns.”

Since the new owners took over – with the Imitel company acquiring Insae in September – they report a complete lack of communication with the workers despite “repeated” requests regarding their grievances.

Consequently, the union urges the owners to “reassess and honour their commitments” to prevent workers from resorting to “pressure measures” that could tarnish the reputation of both the company and the public authorities.

In reference to these authorities, they state that it is essential to hold the successful bidders accountable for breaches of the award documents.

Nevertheless, they emphasise that “the priority is to find a solution to this conflict swiftly,” as there are numerous families who “lack the financial means to cover basic living expenses.”

The Tenerife Auditorium has released a statement expressing its regret over the circumstances faced by the Insae workers while acknowledging “the dedication and hard work” demonstrated by Insae employees “despite the challenging conditions they are enduring.”

Furthermore, it clarifies that this predicament is “entirely unrelated” to Auditorio de Tenerife, which is fulfilling its obligations and wishes to see the conflict between the company and its employees resolved promptly.
