United We Can has requested Endesa to provide a comprehensive report on its facilities following the tragic death of a dog in Santa Cruz de Tenerife last Tuesday after purportedly suffering an electric shock from a manhole cover owned by the company.

The party emphasises in a statement that this incident has triggered “significant concern” within the community, highlighting the “urgent” necessity for a thorough review and upkeep of electrical infrastructure in the area.

The councillor and co-spokesperson for Unidas se Podemos, Rubens Ascanio, has highlighted the critical importance of ensuring the safety of both the public and their pets.

“This unfortunate event not only reveals potential negligence in the upkeep of electrical installations but also represents a serious risk to public safety. It is crucial that Endesa conducts a meticulous examination of all its infrastructure on public thoroughfares,” asserted Ascanio.

The political party is demanding that Endesa submit a detailed report regarding the present condition of its electrical systems within the municipality and to initiate a preventive maintenance strategy.

This action aims to guarantee that all electrical components, particularly those located in high-traffic zones, are in optimal condition and do not pose a threat to the community.

In the historic centre, numerous cables dangle haphazardly or are inadequately secured to aging buildings, which can pose a risk not only to pedestrians but also to the structural integrity of the structures, Ascanio notes.

“We urge Endesa to take immediate action to assess and repair facilities that exhibit clear signs of deterioration or malfunction. It is essential that all necessary measures are taken to prevent similar incidents in the future and to ensure the safety of all residents in our municipality,” he added.

The party’s request also includes a demand for Endesa to commit to routine monitoring and maintenance of its electrical installations to avert future mishaps.

This appeal underscores the necessity to safeguard not only individuals but also the urban environment and the animals residing in the city.

“It is vital that our public infrastructures are maintained to a standard that guarantees the safety of all. The tragedy that has taken place serves as a poignant reminder of the consequences of neglecting the condition of our urban facilities,” concluded the co-spokesperson.

Through this initiative, Unidas se Podemos reaffirms its commitment to the safety of citizens and the welfare of all living beings in the municipality, urging Endesa and the relevant authorities to implement immediate measures to rectify this situation and ensure that a similarly “regrettable” incident does not occur again.
