Officers from the Local Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife apprehended a 25-year-old man early last Sunday after he confronted an officer while vandalising various surfaces with graffiti in the vicinity of Carmen Street. Monteverde, the capital of Tenerife.
The individual, identified as ABT, initially attempted to avoid police intervention by concealing himself in a garage, and when discovered by one of the responding officers, he attempted to assault him.
This police operation commenced following calls received in the Local Police Communications Room 092 reporting two youths engaged in painting buildings in the area. The two officers, who were on patrol in plain clothes as part of a preventative initiative to curtail potential vandalism in the city, observed both individuals, the arrested man and his 26-year-old associate, applying graffiti to the security shutter of a business.
After announcing their identity as police officers, the arrested man fled, whilst his companion remained at the location, which contained a dozen spray cans. One officer pursued the fleeing suspect, who attempted to hide in a nearby garage, while the other officer secured the remaining graffiti artist. When the officer apprehended the suspect, he resisted arrest, leading to a struggle. Ultimately, the officer managed to subdue and handcuff him.
The police called for assistance to escort the detainee to a medical facility and subsequently to the police station. The officers then conducted a visual inspection of the area where the graffiti had been created and discovered further markings around the perimeter of the Doctor Guigou health centre. Both individuals faced charges for administrative violations in connection with these incidents.
