The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, through the Public Services department, has announced that in light of the upcoming All Hallows on 1 November, their opening hours for municipal cemeteries will be extended to facilitate access and reduce congestion.

The cemeteries will be accessible from 08:00 to 18:00 on 29, 30, and 31 October, as well as on 1 November. Outside of these dates, the standard hours of 08:30 to 16:30 will be in effect. On 1 November, the San Rafael and San Roque Cemetery will operate from 09:00 to 17:00.

The Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, emphasised the significance of these measures to “ensure that all citizens can pay their respects to their loved ones in a safe and orderly environment. The extension of hours and the ban on vehicle entry into the cemetery, as is usually established, are necessary actions to achieve this.”

The operations will commence on Tuesday, 29 October, continuing from 08:00 to 18:00 until the following Friday, primarily affecting the TF-29 road that links the North (TF-5) and South (TF-1) routes. Many traffic measures will be implemented as determined by the police forces present in the area, although various scenarios have been anticipated. In the event of congestion at the roundabout in the upper section of the TF-29, near the Northern Highway, vehicles will be restricted from turning left. This way, vehicles entering the roundabout from the TF-5 wishing to turn left towards Chamberí will face no hindrance.

Furthermore, should queues arise at the connection with the TF-5, that exit may be closed until traffic is effectively managed. Alternative routes in this scenario include the underpass to the Somosierra neighbourhood or performing a U-turn at Chamberí. Efforts will be made to facilitate access to the parking areas linking to the cemetery, although parking in front of the cemetery will be discouraged, with alternative parking available at the auxiliary battery lots and the Hoya Fría road adjacent to the mortuary facility.

Efforts will also be made to ensure that users with reduced mobility can utilise the reserved parking spaces, though the recommended parking areas for the public will be behind the funeral home and along Hoya Fría road.

Key Information

Please note that within cemeteries, it is forbidden to consume food, consume alcoholic beverages, smoke, or use any other tobacco inhalation devices, including electronic cigarettes or vaping products. Additionally, the decoration of niches will be limited to the space allocated to each niche. It is advisable to arrive at the cemeteries with floral displays prepared, and any waste from the decoration of the niches should be disposed of in the designated waste containers.

Also, from 08:00 on 29 October until 18:00 on 1 November, vehicle access to Santa Lastenia cemetery will not be permitted, except for funeral vehicles and processions. This cemetery will provide a complimentary bus service for visitors. All cemeteries will have identifiable health care stations set up.

Public Transport

Titsa and the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council will launch line 932 on Wednesday, 1 November, All Saints’ Day, to ease transport to Santa Lastenia cemetery.

The service will commence from the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Interchange at 07:05 and will remain operational until 18:30. In the reverse direction, line 932 will make its first trip at 07:30 and the final one at 19:00, operating at approximately 30-minute intervals.

The line’s route will cover José Manuel Guimerá Avenue, the Nuestra Señora de África Market, Calderón de la Barca, 3 de Mayo Avenue, the districts of Los Gladiolos and Chamberí before arriving at Santa Lastenia cemetery. The return route will pass through Chamberí, Los Gladiolos, Manuel Hermoso Rojas, La Salle, Avenida San Sebastián, José Hernández Alfonso, and conclude at the Intercambiador.

This special service aims to meet the heightened demand on this important occasion and to promote public transport use.

Lines 903 and 923 will operate with weekday schedules

Additionally, lines 903 (from Avenida José Martí Muelle Norte to Moraditas de Taco via García Escámez) and 923 (from Avenida José Martí Muelle Norte to Moraditas de Taco via las Ramblas), which typically do not run on holidays, will operate according to regular weekday schedules.

The City Council reminds the public that it is essential to heed the instructions of cemetery staff and adhere to the prescribed safety measures.
