Starting today, Monday the 28th and running until Thursday the 31st, Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host the inaugural edition of the Halloween window display contest titled “Don’t let them give you pumpkins.” This event, organised by the Santa Cruz Central Zone Association in collaboration with the General Directorate of Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, also enjoys support from the Centro-Ifara district, the Development Society, and Fauca.

Nine shops will compete for the title of best Halloween display in the heart of Santa Cruz. The participating stores include Sensaciones Love Shop, Cefora Castellanos, Jvo Modas, Henko Showroom, Calzados Puntapié, Sal y Lava, Arvelo Juguetería, Aquiles Permuy, and the Magic Mansion.

Voting for the best window display can be conducted via the social media channels of Zona Centro, where participants can also enter a draw for 10 shopping vouchers, each worth 50 euros. Additionally, the shop with the best display will receive a prize in the form of an advertising campaign for their business across various platforms (social media, radio, television, etc.). Voting will remain open until the night of Halloween, October 31, and can be accessed through the Zona Centro Santa Cruz Facebook page.

The Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, praised Zona Centro for this initiative and acknowledged the efforts of the administrations in promoting commercial revitalisation that draws visitors to the city, thus providing a significant boost to local enterprises.

During the event’s presentation held this morning at one of the participating businesses, David Mille, the General Director of Commerce and Consumption for the Government of the Canary Islands, stressed that “Citizen involvement is a vital component of this initiative. By exploring the shop windows, a pathway is created that invigorates commerce and amplifies the voices of small businesses taking part.”

Carmen Pérez, CEO of the Development Society, underscored the importance of such activities where Canarian enterprises “take centre stage,” noting that it serves to promote the circular economy while also encouraging art and community engagement.

Purificación Dávila, the council member of the Centro-Ifara district, emphasised the significance of this initiative as it complements other events being organised in the district, heralding a Christmas season that will feature a comprehensive programme of activities. She added that “the main aim of this revitalisation effort is to rejuvenate local commerce, encourage responsible consumption, and support small businesses.”

Anil Rohera, Vice President of Commerce for the Central Zone, urged institutions and enterprises to collaborate closely as they have successfully executed numerous initiatives to promote Canarian commerce, emphasising the need to involve the island’s public in these economic activities and create a space where culture, commerce, and leisure converge.

“The Halloween celebration has evolved into a crucial economic boost for small businesses in Santa Cruz. This commercial endeavour marks the beginning of the Christmas promotional campaigns for many merchants,” stated Abbas Moujir, president of Fauca.

In this manner, Santa Cruz stylishly launches the first edition of the Halloween Window Contest, providing a platform for local businesses while invigorating commercial ventures within the capital across the fashion, family, health, and aesthetics sectors.
