SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 27th October (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Carta Palace and the Los Charcos de Valleseco area have been acknowledged for their accessibility in the Accessible Architecture awards, bestowed annually by the Insular Society for the Promotion of People with Disabilities (Sinpromi), an entity under the Social Action of the Cabildo of Tenerife. These awards aim to promote the design and construction of buildings and environments that include universal accessibility.

The refurbishment completed at the Palacio de Carta has won the accolade in the ‘Completed Work in Architecture’ category. This prize was awarded to the overhaul of the palace’s ground floor, which was executed by architects Fernando Arocha and Deiene González from Fadg studio. This recognition emphasises that, despite the property’s high level of protection due to its architectural significance, the adjustments incorporate discreet accessibility features, ensuring access and usability for all individuals, as stated by the jury for the awards.

In the ‘Completed Work-Urbanism’ category, a special mention was also given for the intervention in the Maritime Defence and Planning of the Puddle Zone within the Valleseco Functional Area. Here, the application of universal accessibility features throughout the area is praised, from designated parking spaces to accessible restroom facilities, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, expressed gratitude to the awards jury from Sinpromi “for recognising the efforts we invest in Santa Cruz in every project, where universal accessibility is a fundamental principle in our execution.”

The mayor highlighted that, regarding the Palacio de Carta, “an original accessibility system concealed beneath the steps was integrated, which enables the property to offer universal accessibility via its main entrance.” Meanwhile, in Los Charcos de Valleseco, “the ramp systems at its entry points, as well as those leading to the sea, ensure that users with reduced mobility can enjoy the space.”

On 24th October, the Cabildo of Tenerife awarded the Accessible Architecture Awards, celebrating their tenth edition this year, organised by Sinpromi every two years since 2003. The Minister of Social Action, Águeda Fumero, presided over the event, which was also attended by the Councilor for Infrastructure of Santa Cruz, Javier Rivero, on behalf of the city’s council.
