The Popular Party in Icod de Los Vinos will present a proposal to the next Plenary of the municipal corporation to urge the Government of the Canary Islands, and more specifically the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight Against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, to carry out a study to determine the feasibility of using the ash of the La Palma volcano for the replacement of sand in the San Marcos beach.

This was announced by the spokesperson for the Popular Icodeans, José María Polegre, who hopes “to have the support of all the political parties in this initiative, since it could provide a solution to the problem of lack of sand that the emblematic beach of San Marcos, in our municipality ”.

In this regard, Polegre points out that “the serious circumstance affecting San Marcos beach is known to all, due to the loss of sand that it has suffered for years, without the administrations having given it a definitive solution.”

On the other hand, today marks 90 days since the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on La Palma began, which is accumulating a huge amount of ash throughout the Island, and especially in the Aridane Valley.

The PP spokesperson in Icod explains that “the appearance of the ash from La Palma is very similar to the traditional sand from San Marcos beach, so we will defend that it be studied whether the ash from La Palma is suitable to be able to make replacements. on the beach of San Marcos ”.
