SAN SEBASTIÁN DE LA GOMERA, December 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –

12-year-old Colombian environmental activist Francisco Vera has advocated for economic development that takes into account the limits of nature.

This was indicated by the also goodwill ambassador of the European Union in Colombia during a forum held on the island of La Gomera in which they addressed the challenges of the future and the risks of the island territories in the face of the consequences of climate change.

Vera joined the forum with the director of the SOS Arona Festival, Martín Rivero; the Minister of Sustainability, Héctor Cabrera, together with university students and citizens who joined the event, delved into the reflection on the consequences that climate change is having on society.

“There is hope of curbing the negative impact, if we build a development that takes into account the limits of nature. In the case of the Canary Islands, even though it is far from the continental territory, it is very important to protect its biodiversity and bet on governments for life” , said.

In this regard, the president of the Cabildo de La Gomera, Casimiro Curbelo, reiterated that this type of message invites the reflection of society, especially the youngest.

“People – he added – with concerns and who realize a reality in which we must move towards the preservation of our ecosystems, energy transformation and, therefore, continue making efforts towards a sustainable model in all its aspects”.
