The Santa Cruz City Council, via the Mobility department headed by Evelyn Alonso, would like to remind residents that both companies providing electric scooter rental services in the area continue to offer this service without charge. Furthermore, it has announced that in September, a total of 12,404 journeys were recorded by the two companies, Tier and Dott, with parking spaces designated for Personal Mobility Vehicles (VMP) exceeding 94% compliance.

Regarding the complimentary status for residents, Tier has confirmed that the procedure involves submitting requests exclusively through the chatbot in the help centre available on the app. To ensure consistency and efficiency, requests submitted through other channels will not be accepted. Users should select “My account” and then navigate to “Discount for Tenerife Residents” to streamline their application process.

In terms of documentation required, applicants must provide a residency certificate, identification (DNI), and a selfie for additional verification, specifying the city of the request, and attach the necessary documents to the chatbot form. Following the submission of the form, users will receive confirmation that their request is under review.

The team at Tier will then manually review each application to verify that all documents are accurate and meet the outlined criteria. This validation is essential for minimising errors and ensuring the correct application of discounts. If an application complies with all requirements, the discount will be applied directly to the user’s account. Conversely, if the request is declined, the user will be informed with a detailed explanation of the rejection and guidance on how to rectify any issues.

On the other hand, Dott stipulates that to access the resident discount, users must first complete their personal details via the provided link. Once this form is submitted, if the user’s DNI is present in the Santa Cruz City Council’s database, a discount code will be sent to their registered email within 48 to 72 hours.

After receiving the code, users need to access the Dott app and navigate to the “Promotions” section, where they must enter the code sent to their email. However, the company warns that the resident discount does not exempt users from penalties if they fail to park in the designated areas or disregard traffic regulations.

In terms of trip data and electric scooter usage, Dott’s monthly report for Santa Cruz de Tenerife states that “with 2,028 active users, the total number of trips has climbed to 4,081, with parking compliance at 92.42%.” Additionally, in relation to sustainability, the cumulative distance travelled has reached 8,860.84 kilometres, leading to a reduction of 952 kg of CO2 emissions, as reported by the company.

Similarly, Tier revealed in its September newsletter that “a total of 2,582 users, including 879 new users and 1,703 active users, have completed 8,413 trips, with parking compliance standing at 94.39%.” It also highlighted that “users have covered a total distance of 84,858 kilometres, resulting in a reduction of 9,122 kg of CO2 emissions.”
