Hernández Takes Charge of New Güímar PSOE Leadership, Excluding Puerta

The PSOE in Güímar has undergone a transformation, refreshing its executive leadership that was previously headed by Airam Puerta, who has been the general secretary since Rafael Yanes stepped down in 2015. The new executive is led by Gonzalo Hernández and Beatriz Perdomo, a former councillor who resigned due to disagreements with Puerta. His tenure resulted in some of the poorest electoral outcomes for the socialists in Güímar, despite his tenure as mayor for two years through an alliance with CC, a coalition that continues with a nationalist mayor today.

Hernández was elected last Thursday as the general secretary of the local group, spearheading a revitalised executive following years in which the mayoral candidate also held the general secretary position. This transition signifies a new chapter for the party in the municipality, establishing a leadership team composed of members without trusted positions or current councillors, thereby enhancing the commitment to invigorate political activities from the grassroots level.

The candidacy of Hernández received overwhelming backing from the assembly’s votes, including support from former mayor Rafael Yanes, who is his principal ally. The members of the newly formed executive consist of: Gonzalo Hernández as general secretary; Laly González in charge of Organisation; Tomás Plata overseeing Training; Beatriz Perdomo handling Administration; Javier Guzmán responsible for Youth, Innovation and Social Networks; Jorgena Cabrera managing Municipal Politics; Manuel Díaz focusing on Electoral Action; and Anabell Tejera leading the Secretariat of Equality.
