The board of directors of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife convened yesterday under the leadership of its president, Pedro Suárez, and has approved a significant step forward in the conceptualisation of the future Los Llanos Marina building project. The contractor for this venture is Construcciones Dique del Este SA, and most of the previously unresolved aspects that will shape the proposal have now been finalised. This endeavour aims to restore the city’s connection with the sea at Plaza de España.
The council members have sanctioned the Tenerife Port Authority to encourage the contractor to incorporate all the insights provided by the technical committee after its meeting in May into the construction plans. Furthermore, they have agreed to the contractor’s suggestion to carry out the building works in two phases, ensuring that no more than six months elapse between the completion of phase one and the commencement of phase two.
Specifically, the construction plans for the upcoming building, situated on the seafront access to the city, must include a comprehensive study of the façade composition to facilitate better environmental integration. This process will involve careful consideration of the materials and finishes to be utilised, with a constant focus on durability, quality, and the blending of the future structure into the landscape.
Regarding materials and finishes, they will mirror those already in place in the part of the project developed in Plaza de España, which will feature roof pavements made of natural stone. This adjustment addresses one of the reasons for the initial rejection of the contractor’s base proposal, as it lacked sufficient integration. Consequently, a revised proposal was sought in line with its prominent location at the maritime gateway to the city.
Ports of Tenerife, the Cabildo, and the city council constitute the technical committee, which is tasked with assessing the suitability of the building proposal in relation to the distinctive environment it will occupy and the urban vision proposed by Herzog & De Meuron for the area. The primary objective is to ensure that the structure is perceived as an urban landscape that is functionally integrated into its surroundings.
