SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 24th October (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government Council has approved, on Thursday, the preliminary draft of the General Budget Law for the Autonomous Community for the year 2025, following a proposal from the Minister of Finance and Relations with the European Union, Matilde Asián. In a prior agreement, a non-financial expenditure cap of 11,678 million Euros was sanctioned, indicating an increase of 377 million Euros compared to 2024, which translates to a rise of 3.3%.

During the press briefing that followed the extraordinary meeting of the Government Council today, the spokesperson for the Canary Islands Executive, Alfonso Cabello, together with the Minister of the Treasury, underscored that this budget “is intended to place individuals at the heart of the autonomous community’s policy actions and to structure how the governance of the Canary Islands’ policy competencies for the forthcoming year will be undertaken”.

Alfonso Cabello also remarked that all public administrations “should have a budget or at the very least make an attempt to have one”; thus, he expressed hope that the State Government “might also have a budget so that the uncertainties surrounding this budget, which the Ministry of Finance has adeptly navigated, can be resolved, and improvements can be made should state public accounts be available.”
