Arona adds 85 containers for textile, footwear and oil waste

Arona has fifty new fixed containers for textile and footwear waste, as well as 35 for vegetable oil generated in the homes, all this in the ecological islands located in the different nuclei. This is the first consignment of this equipment, the expansion of which will be applied according to the demands posed by the localities.

The municipality provided a similar service since 2011, when it proceeded to implement the mobile ecopoints, not only in the collection of textiles and oil, but of all those fractions of waste from the home. This service is reinforced with fixed containers, which allow you to deposit your use at any time.

These are 50 containers for waste textile and footwear. Beige, where clothes, blankets, sheets, duvets, bedspreads, curtains, accessories such as belts, ties, scarves, gloves, bags, etc. are deposited. As for the 35 containers for the collection of vegetable oil, they are orange and manufactured at kilometer 0, that is, made in Tenerife, thus minimizing the carbon footprint.

With its start-up, the aim is to achieve maximum efficiency and meet quality and sustainability objectives, making it easier for citizens to separate them for recycling. In addition, Arona is three years ahead of the maximum term of the waste framework directive, which establishes the limit for its implementation on December 31, 2024.

The 50 beige containers are for textiles and footwear; and the 35 orange ones are used for oil

The winning company is responsible for its safe deposit, as well as for the proper environmental management in terms of its collection and transport. Likewise, it is responsible for its recovery, recovery or regeneration to avoid its direct elimination.

For the mayor, José Julián Mena, “this is another step in our commitment to the environment and sustainability, which are key pillars of the municipality’s government strategy.”

The Councilor for the Environment and Sustainability, Leopoldo Díaz Oda, points out that “the fixed containers for recycling vegetable oil will allow citizens to deposit a polluting residue, with the consequent repercussions for the environment.” In the case of those used for textiles and footwear, “we promote circular economy measures, giving them a new life. From the City Council we carry out continuous actions to improve day after day in terms of sustainability “, he concludes.
