The Mobility and Universal Accessibility Department of the Santa Cruz City Council, led by Evelyn Alonso, underscores the positive outcomes achieved and the enhancements identified in the area following the first year of the agreement with Kapsch TrafficCom, under the leadership of its CEO Javier Aguirre, alongside the technical support provided by Tekia. “By employing cutting-edge technology in urban settings, they have fostered a Santa Cruz with advanced technological infrastructures, more sustainable and modern,” remarks the mayor of the capital, José Manuel Bermúdez.

The area’s councillor emphasizes that after a year managing the contracts with Kapsch TrafficCom and Tekia, “the city has advanced in technological and cutting-edge elements,” adding that “this modernisation is an opportunity to reflect on our achievements and to gaze towards a future brimming with optimism and renewed commitment, enabling us to develop a more efficient and sustainable city.”

Among the accomplishments observed in this first assessment, the technological innovation represented by the installation of the EcoTrafic system stands out, which has transformed traffic management within the city. Additionally, the upgrade of traffic regulators is crucial for enabling safer and more efficient circulation. Moreover, connectivity and communication advancements are evident through the installation of over 4,000 metres of fibre optics and 7,000 metres of cable, markedly enhancing the communication network.

Efficient lighting

Furthermore, initiatives such as efficient lighting have been introduced, featuring the replacement of more than 1,000 LED lights, contributing significantly to energy efficiency and sustainability.

Other significant milestones achieved in the past 12 months relate to the centralisation of intersections, which enhances coordination and safety at the busiest junctions in Santa Cruz and across the urban landscape. The renewal of loops (sensors for vehicle flow measurement) has seen 200 units upgraded for more accurate and efficient traffic detection.

Lastly, this initial evaluation also highlights the studies and pilot projects conducted, including traffic analyses aimed at improving mobility and exploring innovative and sustainable solutions that ultimately signify a commitment to the community.

These advancements reinforce the strong dedication of Kapsch TrafficCom and Tekia towards enhancing technological and avant-garde elements, striving for sustainability and the modernisation of a safer, more efficient, and environmentally responsible Santa Cruz.
