The Stop Spill Platform urges the president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, to “retract” and “apologise” to the Punta Brava community after claiming that 450 residences were not linked to the sewage system, which she described as “a longstanding issue” in a statement. This situation, it was noted, “has caused undesirable discharges and has intensified the load on the treatment plant, which is currently operating at full capacity.”
“With the current census revealing that only 28% of the homes are not connected, they should issue an apology and accept responsibility, as the discharges originate from a facility under their control,” stated spokesperson Candelaria Fariña.
Furthermore, the Platform insists that none of the collectors being constructed in the La Orotava Valley should be linked to the treatment facility until the expansion work, which has been on the agenda since 2015, is completed, arguing that “the issues will persist.”
