The Minister for Social Welfare of the Canary Islands Government, Candelaria Delgado, visited the municipality of Guía de Isora yesterday and convened with the mayor, Ana Dorta, to assess the advancements in various social initiatives. Delgado emphasised the efficiency of the City Council in implementing the Canarian Citizenship Income, for which a total of 22,885 euros has been designated, with 98% of this amount already expended by the municipality. This benefit aims to assist the most vulnerable individuals and those facing social exclusion.
In addition, he acknowledged the effective management of the wallet cards programme, another aid initiative serving a similar purpose, which has been allocated 48,000 euros, allowing support for 40 families in at-risk situations. This initiative targets family units whose income per consumption unit falls below 40% of the national average income. During the discussion, the Co-Responsible Plan was also examined, which focuses on enhancing gender equality through shared responsibility in caregiving. Delgado noted that funds will be allocated to municipal councils in the forthcoming weeks for the implementation of this plan.
