Ana Hernández, as spokesperson for the neighbors of Las Bajas, apologizes because «we lost our nerves and forms in the plenary session Güímar City Council Last Tuesday”. In that session they rebuked the councilor for Urbanism and former mayor, Airam Puerta, calling him a “liar” and “corrupt” repeatedly.

“We trusted and believed in his word, because he seemed to us an honest person,” Ana Hernández said yesterday in a video broadcast on social networks. In it, he recalls that Puerta took refuge in the advice of legal services so as not to answer the question he asked during the plenary session, referring to the neighborhood eviction, their rehousing and the return to their homes. “From the Legal Services of the City Council of Güímar these instructions have not been given to Mr. Puerta,” said the municipal secretary last Wednesday.

The spokesperson affirms that “they have thrown a million and a half euros of public money on our homes”, with the aggravating factor that “there is no engineer who guarantees us that we can return to our homes». Those who left in May after receiving in March from the City Council, Airam Puerta being mayor, a communication for their eviction due to the instability of the slope located over the houses in the area.

The slope repair was hired for 342,865 euros. The work certifications presented already exceed 1.1 million and it is estimated that the final extra cost will exceed one and a half million euros. The work is stopped by order of the mayor, Gustavo Pérez, for that extra cost. The Consistory has only paid the contracted amount.

In addition, the residents of Las Bajas have received notifications of costs to proceed with the demolition of the dwellings as they are affected by a record of possessory recovery of the maritime-terrestrial public domain space. Ana Hernández accuses Puerta of having “reactivated” such a file before the Provincial Coastal Service. For all of this, “I ask you publicly to resign, to go away because of your terrible performance before the residents of Las Bajas, for throwing taxpayers’ money to kick us out of our homes,” says the neighborhood spokesperson, who demands that Gustavo Pérez “contribute solutions ».

Airam Puerta chose the same formula to apologize to the neighbors, admit that he knows the document of the eviction of Las Bajas derived from the collaboration that he requested, deny that he starts the recovery of possession of this enclave, explain that he acted “out of responsibility and common sense” to ensure people’s safety, affirm that only the amount of the contract has been paid and defend that facing the problems “greatly dignifies politics.”
