Costly Blaze: The Price of Burned Containers in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The incidents of burning bins have emerged as a significant issue for Santa Cruz de Tenerife, not solely due to the harm caused to public amenities and the environment. These acts of vandalism may impose a considerable financial strain on the town hall of the capital, which bears the responsibility of replacing each of the damaged containers.

In recent hours, the Local Police have reported a number of fire outbreaks across various locations in the capital, impacting both bins and surrounding vehicles.

The affected locales encompass avenues and streets such as Venezuela, Joaquín Turina, Cuesta Piedra, Simón Bolívar, among others. Though efforts are underway to locate those responsible, the damage has already been inflicted.

A substantial expense

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is home to approximately 7,000 bins distributed throughout the city, as highlighted on the website santacruzlimpia.es. Furthermore, according to the portal todoconteneres.com, a standard side-loading bin, such as the grey ones commonly found on the streets, costs about 1,050 euros each. Given this price, the cost of replacing several burned bins could accumulate into a substantial sum.

Moreover, prices may fluctuate depending on the type of bin. The most prevalent, with a capacity of 1,100 litres, range from 200 to 600 euros, while larger and more specialised models that facilitate side-loading collection significantly exceed that amount.

Community involvement

The Local Police have already sought the assistance of the public in identifying those accountable for these fires. The active engagement of residents is crucial in halting this cycle of vandalism that impacts numerous areas within the Tenerife capital.
