El Sauzal is set to establish a tourist information office for the first time, a resource designed to highlight and promote the attractions of the northern municipality.
“We have been developing this project for around ten to twelve years, which has faced delays, but this time it is officially approved,” confirms the mayor, Mariano Pérez, to this publication. The office will be situated opposite the Town Hall, in a building that will be refurbished for this purpose, located within the urban area.
“It will be a modern facility, outfitted with state-of-the-art technology, including touch screens so visitors can view the offerings of the municipality and the Island from outside,” details the mayor, who is optimistic that this initiative will be ready by next year as the construction is straightforward. “It is anticipated that the work will take between 5 and 6 months and we have secured the funding,” he states.
The investment allocated for this resource exceeds 200,000 euros, with the local council contributing 40,000 euros, as per the mayor, and it is included in next year’s budgets, totalling 13,265,094.61 euros.
This amount represents a 17.50% increase compared to 2024, and was approved last Friday during the final municipal plenary session, with votes in favour from the councillors of the Canary Coalition (CC), abstentions from the members of the Independent Association of El Sauzal-Nueva Canarias (AISA-NC) and the Popular Party (PP), and opposition from the Socialist Party (PSOE).
The El Sauzal City Council is the first in the North to have already drafted the 2025 economic document. “Our practice is to complete it between late September and early October so that it takes effect from January 1,” he explains.
One of the sections that experiences the most substantial changes is Investments, which has increased by 500% compared to the previous year, rising from 366,828 euros in 2024 to 2,261,532 euros. This notable rise is largely attributed to contributions from the Cabildo of Tenerife and the Government of the Canary Islands, with the City Council contributing only 800,000 euros from its own resources.
This funding will facilitate crucial projects, some of which have already been awarded, including a new phase of the municipal cemetery. In addition, there will be improvement works in schools, sports facilities, and municipal equipment and services.
