Upcoming Traffic Changes for Padre Anchieta Walkway Expansion

The Cabildo of Tenerife, through its Roads department, intends to modify traffic patterns in the vicinity of the Padre Anchieta roundabout due to the installation of falsework and the sixth module of the pedestrian pathway that comprises the Great Insular Ring of Padre Anchieta.

This operation necessitates the closure of both lanes of the aforementioned roundabout; consequently, access from the TF-5 to the TF-24 motorway (towards La Esperanza), along with Astrofísico Francisco Sánchez street and Avenida de La Trinidad, will be blocked. The traffic alterations will be effective from this Monday until the following Thursday.

In light of the mentioned road closures, the following detours will be established: access from TF-5 to TF-24 and Astrofísico Francisco Sánchez street via Lora street and Tamayo-Mayber street-Camino San Miguel de Geneto-Domingo González Pérez street-TF-265 or The Coromoto. The road closures will occur nightly from 8:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The Tenerife Cabildo urges drivers to exercise extreme caution when traversing the area during the construction period and to remain attentive to the signage and directives from the Roads Area personnel at all times.

The construction of the Great Pedestrian Ring of Padre Anchieta involves 11 metal sections, each weighing 40 tons, and signifies an investment of 8.8 million euros. The work, undertaken by the company Obras Huarte Lain SA, consists of a continuous curved beam shaped like a ring, measuring approximately 100 metres in diameter, supported by a specific system of supports, along with a plaza adjacent to the current parking area of the Faculty of Biology at the University of La Laguna.

Upon completion, the eight pedestrian crossings currently used by over 20,000 people daily will be eliminated, significantly enhancing safety conditions and facilitating the flow of traffic.

The design of the Great Pedestrian Ring represents a significant advancement in such infrastructure, having been awarded the 2019 National Innovation and Design Awards by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain.
