The City Council of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, in collaboration with the Department of Culture and the Troysteatro company, is hosting a fresh edition of the Night of Stories, dedicated to micro-stories. This event, which is free of charge, will gather tomorrow, Saturday, 12 October, 16 storytellers from across Spain for sessions targeted at adults as well as children and families.

During the event’s launch, the Culture Councillor, Dailos González, emphasised the significance of the Night of Stories within the cultural calendar. He noted that initiatives such as this help to position the municipality as a hub for “lovers of storytelling” and expressed gratitude to those making “imagination and narratives available to all.”

Antonio Fumero, the artistic director of Troysteatro, expressed appreciation to La Laguna’s cultural department for their continued support of the Night of Stories. He also mentioned that, starting this year, “the project will receive a subsidy, which will enhance its potential for growth in both quality and quantity.”

Furthermore, actress and member of the company’s organising committee, Rocío Afonso, detailed how the “main day of the Night of Stories” will unfold, focusing on the schedule and venues for the family-friendly sessions and those specifically for adults.

The younger audience can delight in the stories at the Plaza del Cristo from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the evening session, aimed at an adult audience, will take place at the Santo Domingo convent, commencing at 9:00 p.m. and lasting until the early hours of the morning.

This edition features participants from Tenerife, including Óscar Bacallado, Melanie Henríquez, Darío Cardona, Héctor Ruíz, Omaira Morales, Raquel González, Marianexy Yanes, and Alberto Díez.

Storytellers from Gran Canaria, such as Paco “El Rubio” and Cristina “Badabadum”, alongside Tiziana Maio from La Palma, Cristina Temprano from Lanzarote, David Acera from Asturias, Elia Tralará from Segovia, Valencian Vicenté Cortés, and Biscayan Ana Apika, will also attend the Night of Stories.

This thirty-second edition, coinciding once again with the La Laguna Book Fair, will feature additional activities like Story Walks, allowing a limited number of attendees to enjoy tales while strolling through various streets in the historic centre. Moreover, the public will have the chance to attend meet-and-greet events and get their copies signed by participating narrators, showcasing works related to oral storytelling.

In the lead-up to the Night of Stories, and spanning two days, the Encountered Cloisters took place, featuring eight storytellers performing in iconic courtyards throughout the city. Chosen venues included the Santa Clara de Asís, Cayetano Gómez Felipe, and Casa Anchieta museums, along with the Casa de los Capitanes and the Santo Domingo convent.
