Pedro Martín Raises Alarm Over Risks to Southern Highway’s Third Lane Project

The leader of the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Tenerife, Pedro Martín, has labelled the electoral commitment of “90 days” made by the president of the insular Corporation, Rosa Dávila, as a “failure” in addressing the queues on the Island.

Martín asserted that not only has she failed to uphold her promise, but she has also neglected to implement effective solutions to ease the situation, leaving completed road projects “on hold” despite having received an environmental impact report approved by the socialists while she oversees the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands.

In this regard, he elaborated that the “lack of concern” from the current Minister of Public Works of the Government of the Canary Islands, coupled with the president of the Cabildo’s failure to voice her stance within the Canarian Coalition in support of Tenerife, is jeopardising works on the Southern Highway between Granadilla de Abona and Adeje. These works are awaiting the environmental impact report for the Las Chafiras-Oroteanda project, which is nearing completion. “If the project concludes without the others commencing, the report will be rendered invalid, necessitating a restart of the procedural work,” he highlighted. Specifically, this pertains to the third lane projects of the Southern Highway across its various sections.

Concerning the shuttle buses to the ULL, he pointed out that “they have been occupied by individuals for whom they were not intended,” such as tourists, and moreover, in the best scenario, they only cater to 5% of the student demand.
