Rescue Mission: Two Hikers Found After Over 10 Hours in Anaga Mountains

Firefighters in Tenerife successfully rescued two lost hikers in the Anaga region after they went missing for over 10 hours. The search involved multiple emergency teams and the deployment of a drone unit before darkness fell.

Emergency rescue services, based in the Santa Cruz park, were summoned on Tuesday at approximately 7:30 p.m. to assist in finding the two individuals who had become lost in the Lomo Bersegue area, as detailed in a statement released on Wednesday.

The hikers were en route to Benijo beach when they strayed from their intended path and became disoriented.

After an extensive search lasting over 10 hours, the hikers were found in good condition, thanks to the efforts of the Tenerife Firefighters’ drone unit which aided the search operation.

The Tenerife Firefighters Coordination Centre activated the service via emergency number 112, and due to the operational challenges, several teams were deployed to assist.

The first team descended the route and made contact with the hikers, although they were unable to reach them directly.

The second team took over the search from Benijo and requested assistance from the drone unit, which retraced the trail from the bottom upwards to aid in locating the hikers, as the area was particularly challenging due to dense vegetation and poor visibility.

At around 7:00 a.m. the following morning, the rescue team reached the hikers and escorted them on foot to the TF-123.

The operation required the cooperation of various agencies, including the National Police Corps, Local Police, Anaga Emergency Assistance (AEA), Civil Protection, and Cecopin.
