The Cabildo of Tenerife has commenced efforts to restore the Angola Well, situated in the Forest Crown Natural Park, to ensure agricultural water supply in Vilaflor, within the Chasna region.
On Friday, 4th October, the advisor for the Primary Sector, Valentin Gonzalez, visited this facility, which has been inactive since 1998, and highlighted its potential as a vital source of irrigation for the entire area.
The rehabilitation of this well, as Gonzalez noted, “is in response to the water emergency declaration made in May this year, given that the Vilaflor locality, located in the southern part of the island, is experiencing a water shortfall of about 1,000 cubic meters daily. We could alleviate this situation with the reopening of the Angola Well.”
Valentin Gonzalez further elaborated, stating, “Presently, our efforts, in conjunction with the Environment department of the Cabildo, concentrate on assessing the feasibility of sustainably extracting water from the well in the long term. We will analyse the need to replace the internal lining to extend its lifespan and identify the most suitable pumping equipment.”
