Teidagua is conducting a pilot test to reduce the discharge to the middle of the solids that carry runoff water during rainy episodes. In this regard, from the mixed company in charge of the supply and sanitation service in La Laguna, they explained that throughout the municipality there are a large number of rainwater discharge points, which are collected by the existing rain networks on the roads and led to the riverbeds, which end up flowing into the sea.

However, in episodes of rain, the waters also carry a large amount of solids that are deposited on the ground and whose final destination is ravine beds and, finally, the sea.

To reduce the environmental impact that this entails, Teidagua is testing a system through networks that retain most of these solids, preventing their subsequent release to the sea.

From these nets, after each episode of rain, all the captured material is removed and they are put back in the drainage point, as explained by the joint venture. The first of these networks has already been installed at a stormwater drainage point on the coast of Punta del Hidalgo.

As an example, in a recent episode of rains, this net was able to capture almost 50 kilos of remains that have been prevented from reaching the sea, according to data from Teidagua, such as plastic bottles, bags, animal excrement, wipes, etc.

Census of points

From the joint venture they indicated that the approximate cost of each installation is about 450 euros and that, at present, it is conducting a census of storm drainage points throughout the municipality, both in ravines and directly on the coast, where the installation of these solid retention systems.

Emergency work on the network as it passes through Barrio Nuevo

The rains of recent days have forced the City Council of La Laguna, through the Department of Municipal Services, and the Teidagua joint venture to act urgently on Arturo Vergara Street, in Barrio Nuevo. The works, directed by Teidagua, consist of the renovation of some 110 meters of concrete pipe of the sanitation network that runs along that road, after a traffic jam and a break in the structure due to its obsolescence and the latest rainfall, which ended up causing the collapse. The works began last Tuesday and will last until next week.
