The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, signed a decree yesterday to restructure the municipal governing body following the resignation of the former Councillor for Culture and the Primary Sector, Leticia Villegas. She stepped down for personal reasons and will formally address the full session of the Corporation on Thursday, October 10. Adrián del Castillo will succeed her and is set to take up his role as the new councillor during the plenary meeting in November.
In the interim period before the new councillor’s induction, adjustments will be made to the allocation of areas and responsibilities within the Socialist Group of the Laguna administration. Badel Albelo will take on the presidency of the Autonomous Body for Musical Activities while retaining his role in the Autonomous Body for Sports, as well as overseeing the Department of Citizen Security and Sports.
Cristina Ledesma will take charge of the Department of Rural Development and Cemeteries. Dailos González will be responsible for the Department of Culture and Festivals, focusing on Women, Equality, and LGBTI matters. Lastly, the department previously led by Ángel Chinea will be rebranded to cover Works, Infrastructure, Accessibility, Market, and Water Supply. The areas managed by Paqui Rivero, Adolfo Cordobés, and María Cruz will remain unchanged.
Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez expressed his gratitude to Leticia Villegas for her contributions during her year and a half in government and extended his best wishes to Adrián del Castillo for his upcoming duties in public service, along with the other councillors overseeing the newly assigned areas.
Born in La Laguna in 1990, Adrián del Castillo Correa holds a degree in Primary Education Teaching from the University of La Laguna and a qualification as a Higher Technician in Pathological Anatomy and Cytology from IES Los Gladiolos.
