Officers from the Candelaria Civil Guard have probed a 39-year-old individual suspected of committing a persistent crime against property, specifically for pilfering batteries from both fishing and leisure vessels at the dock in Candelaria, Tenerife.
The incidents commenced in February 2023 and persisted over several months, as the accused exploited the absence of crew on the boats moored at the dock to gain access and steal the batteries, as stated by the armed institution in a statement.
The alleged offender is reported to have taken seven batteries, valued at approximately 2,000 euros.
Thanks to the inquiry conducted by the Civil Guard officers, sufficient evidence was collected to identify, locate, and investigate the accused individual.
Furthermore, documents confirming the illicit sale of the pilfered batteries were retrieved.
“Considering that these criminal actions were instigating a degree of social unrest among local fishermen, this investigation has been vital in reinstating peace at the aforementioned dock,” concludes the statement.
