The Camp will vote this afternoon if it moves to the Presidency. Sergio Mendez

This afternoon, the Camping for a decent home, which has spent more than 150 days spending the night on the street, will put to a vote the possibility of lifting the campsite in Plaza Candelaria, where they have been since September, to move again to the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands. This possibility arises after, on the one hand, the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands rejected his claim for violation of fundamental rights against the municipal eviction order, and on the other, due to the principle of agreement reached with the Capital City Council at the meeting held yesterday afternoon.

As explained by Eloy Cuadra, who along with Lolo Dorta, attended the aforementioned meeting, “we have made it clear that we are convinced that reason assists us in terms of our right to demonstrate, that we are not on the street for pleasure, and that if Well, the City Council has supported us in some demands, so far, the only thing it has done is to urge, without going any further. That is why we ask him to be more forceful in his actions ”.

A request that the Camp directed to the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, who chaired the meeting, which was also attended by the councilors for Urban Planning, Carlos Tarife, Social Action, Rosario González, and Housing, Juan José Martíenez.

According to Cuadra, in exchange for moving the encampment from Plaza Candelaria, they demanded that the mayor provide concrete solutions for the families of Santa Cruz who are members of the encampment. “We have families that are going to be evicted, like those in El Tablero, others that do not have water, and others that do not even have a house, but live in tents. We have asked for solutions for them, “said Cuadra.

Among these solutions are those for Santa Cruz to go to Visocan to find out what happens with the purchase of the El Tablero homes, or to intercede with the Coral Home fund, owner of other homes belonging to families in the camp, to see the possibility that Visocan also buy them.

Another request is that Santa Cruz lead, within the Fecam, a work table in which all administrations sit down to address the housing problem in the Canary Islands, a table in which the Camping would also be.

From the collective they insist that, in no case, are they going to set up the camping of the street, that they only change their place, if the assembly so decides, and that it will be the fulfillment of what was spoken in yesterday’s meeting that defines the moment they leave.
