The sixteenth edition of Plenilunio Santa Cruz will commence this Friday at 8:30 p.m. on the maritime avenue, featuring a display with over 220 drones, followed by a concert by the Tenerife Philharmonic Orchestra (OFT) in the Plaza de La Candelaria. This was declared by the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, who elaborated that “from 8:30 p.m. onwards, the capital of Tenerife will experience the launch of an extensive schedule that will continue throughout the weekend.”

In this regard, Bermúdez highlighted that “approximately a hundred events will be held across about twenty venues, both outdoors and indoors, from this Friday until Sunday, with the full agenda available on the website www.pleniluniosantacruz.com.” He added that “Plenilunio has become one of the most significant and established events in our municipality, attracting an increasing number of people from other parts of Tenerife and even other islands, eager to relish the expansive cultural, musical, commercial, and gastronomic offerings that will be available over three consecutive days.”

Moreover, the CEO of the Development Society, Carmen Pérez, remarked that “this year, Plenilunio will revolve around the theme ‘Fantastic Worlds’, which will guide the various events, transforming the city into a realm of magic, family-friendly activities, and concerts that will enliven every nook of our municipality.” She further mentioned that “this Friday’s activities will kick off in the Plaza de La Candelaria, the MUNA, TEA Tenerife, and the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts of Santa Cruz.”

“To initiate the festivities, this Friday at 8:30 p.m., Marítima Avenue will host an extraordinary show featuring 220 drones that will create various shapes in the Santa Cruz sky, visible from any point along this road,” Pérez explained. She added that “once the display concludes, the Tenerife Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a concert in the Plaza de La Candelaria, featuring pieces such as ‘Carros de fuego’, ‘More than you know’, ‘Played Alive (The Bongo Song)’, ‘Piratas del Caribe’, and ‘One more time’, conducted by José Antonio Cubas, with soloists Antonella Vega and Altahay de la Guardia.”

Additionally, in celebration of Plenilunio, the Museum of Nature and Archeology (MUNA) will remain open until 9:00 p.m., offering two specialised tours by prior registration, focused on nocturnal raptors and bats, with sessions at 6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. Furthermore, the temporary exhibition “The smoke of progress. ‘El Correillo La Palma, its era and recovery’” will feature guided tours at 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

In a similar vein, TEA Tenerife will extend its hours until 8:00 p.m., inviting visitors to explore the exhibitions “Two who cross each other,” showcasing Óscar Domínguez’s work, and “Sweet dreams,” by Carlos Rivero. Additionally, a guided tour of the exhibition “Óscar Domínguez. Two that intersect” will take place at 6:00 p.m. hosted by the TEA Department of Education. At 7:00 p.m., the TEA 2024 Contemporary Biennial will be inaugurated, themed The Heretical Proclamation. Concurrently, the assembly hall will screen the film The Farrer Method, directed by Esther Morente, at 7:00 p.m.

Also included in this Friday’s lineup is the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which will extend its hours until 10:00 p.m. and host the Romanza de Plenilunio concert, organised by professors from the Canary Islands Superior Conservatory of Music as part of the Tenerife Viola Masterclass.

Plenilunio Santa Cruz is organised by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Development Society and is backed by Promotur Turismo de Canarias (Government of the Canary Islands), funded through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, under the Next Generation EU Funds. Additionally, it enjoys the support of Hospiten, Worten, Fuente Alta, Mutua Tinerfeña, and Cajasiete.

Plenilunio Santa Cruz encourages the use of public transport or bicycles, the disposal of waste in designated containers, the utilisation of a single cup, and promotes the use of cardboard containers.

Those interested in staying in Santa Cruz during Plenilunio can find all the information regarding the city’s hotels as well as special offers in the ‘Accommodations’ section of the website www.pleniluniosantacruz.com, where further details related to mobility and the complete range of activities are also available.
