The southern highway will be diverted to build the Oroteanda underpass, which is part of the project for the new TF-1 junction in San Miguel de Abona. The traffic will run along the four lanes that the Ministry of Public Works of the Canarian Government is enabling on the sea side of this road, during the three months necessary to complete the works. The affected section covers around half a kilometer of the highway, which runs from around the TF-652 or down to the El Gomero gas station (near kilometer 64) until past the Archile ravine. The measure will take effect before the end of this month (the 22nd is the most likely date).

“It is a bypass that is required to carry out this part of the work of the new link, so that this tunnel is necessary to connect the two roundabouts that this project carries.” The first of them has already been built and in use since last November 30, explained the general director of Road Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Luis Delgado.

To enable the alternative road, the company awarded the works proceeded to fill in the affected part of the old Archiles ravine with 30,000 cubic meters. Likewise, it was necessary to use the TF-655, which connects from Parque de la Reina with Las Chafiras –parallel to the highway– and which was given by the Cabildo to make this infrastructure possible, included in the TF-1 Third Lane project. Hydraulic runner

José Luis Delgado highlights the role of Council by providing a section of the TF-655 highway, included in the new road bypass. This was transferred to the president of the island Corporation, Pedro Martín, for whom the Ministry of Public Works carries out “a very important work to improve connectivity and the fluidity of traffic in the region.” Both agreed yesterday in the inspection that Martín carried out of the works related to the Chafiras-Oroteanda hydraulic corridor, for which the Cabildo de Tenerife has contributed 4.6 million euros. Its owner reported that a first section of half a kilometer has already been completed, of the 2.5 planned.

“This is a key intervention for the south of the island, because it will include new pipelines, both for desalinated and treated water, destined for agriculture in the area.” Martín Domínguez took the opportunity to state that, “currently, in the region we are also working on the construction of three new purification systems”, alluding to the so-called Granadilla de Abona, Arona-San Miguel and Southwest. Regarding them, he said that “they will incorporate new water resources into the system, essential for supplying water to agriculture and to reduce the market price,” he stressed.

With regard to the actual works of the Chafiras-Oroteanda hydraulic corridor, these replace current reclaimed water pipes and desalinated water that flow along the TF-1. It also contemplates the installation of an underground service gallery, made of reinforced concrete, which will have a length of 287 meters, a width of three meters and a height of 2.50 meters. It is expected that in February or March of next year the hydraulic corridor can be fully completed.

The third lane

It should be remembered that the construction of the Las Chafiras-Oroteanda link officially began on November 26, 2018, with the signing of the reconsideration act, although the works began in March 2019. With a budget of 23,323,630 euros and 21 months of term, in Chafiras it will have a typology of a roundabout elevated on the trunk of the TF-1, to which the TF-65 (Los Abrigos) will connect, and the two branches to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the two collector-distribution routes in the south direction .

The new Oroteanda junction will be at kilometer 63.5It will have two roundabouts of 60 meters in diameter and two traffic lanes of 4 meters each. The branches link with the collector-distribution roads and these with the trunk of the highway and the Las Chafiras link.

On this work hangs the sentence of the Supreme Court (TS) that endorses the one issued by the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) canceling the extension of the environmental impact statement of the TF-1 third lane project and the regional executive order approving the Las Chafiras-Oroteanda link project.
