During the plenary session of the Tenerife Cabildo, which took place last Friday, members acknowledged the decree issued by President Rosa Dávila, requesting the Environmental Assessment Commission of Tenerife (CEAT) to initiate the environmental evaluation of the Project of Insular Interest titled ‘Underwater Garden’, proposed in the municipality of Guía de Isora.

The aim of this project is to facilitate the establishment of a complementary, non-residential, and infrastructural tourist resource, comprising a regenerative park designed to provide both tourists and residents with exceptional experiences that connect them with the sea and nature through leisure, sport, science, art, and enjoyment, all centred around the restoration of the seabed and its ecosystems.

Alicia Leirachá, the insular director of Strategic Projects, remarked in a statement that the promotion of such initiatives assists in fostering a tourism model “that focuses on sustainability from various angles: social, environmental, and economic.”

Furthermore, Leirachá emphasised her team’s efforts to accelerate and support the advancement of these insular interest projects for the island of Tenerife, concluding that during this term they are dedicated to “prioritising and hastening the processing of strategic projects that contribute to the sustainable economic, social, health, and territorial development of Tenerife, aiming for their final approval before the end of this term.”
