SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Tenerife Island Council, in conjunction with the El Tanque Town Council, has formalised a collaboration agreement aimed at extending, renovating, and refurbishing the Senior Citizens’ Residence in the town, with the objective of increasing the number of social-healthcare placements in this establishment.

The Vice President of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso; the Minister of Social Action, Águeda Fumero, and the Mayor of El Tanque, Esther Morales, today facilitated the signing of the agreement between the two administrations at the premises of the Residence for the Elderly.

As part of this agreement, the Council is allocating 2,636,223.57 euros across multiple years for the centre’s expansion, which will enable an increase in residential places to 44, alongside an additional 19 places at the day centre (a total increase of 37 placements).

This initiative is a component of the agreement between the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands for the execution of the social and health infrastructure plan, designed to “offer services that address the social requirements and needs of our island.”

In this context, Vice President Lope Afonso reflected that “one of the significant challenges facing Tenerife is the enhancement of social and health policies”, and thus, “today, in El Tanque, we are taking another stride to affirm this vital commitment we uphold with the people of Tenerife”.

Afonso underscored “the significance of this agreement, which entails allocating substantial funding to this council to fulfil one of our key priorities as the island’s administration, which centres on putting individuals at the heart of all policies.”

Furthermore, Councillor for Social Action, Águeda Fumero, expressed that “with this agreement, we have accomplished one of our aims, in expanding the residential and day care provision for the elderly in the municipality of El Tanque as well as across the northern region of the island, with a building model focused on person-centred care”, adding that “the approach we advocate from the Cabildo revolves around the specialisation of services, as we recognise this as a means to be more effective in addressing the needs of the most vulnerable populations”.

Lastly, Mayor Esther Morales remarked that “this agreement represents wonderful news for us, enabling enhancements and expansions in the care offered to our elderly community.”
